If you’re going to eat an breakfast or brunch on Sanibel Island, you have to try the Lighthouse Cafe breakfast. We didn’t the first few times we stopped in. But we learned from our mistake and corrected it. We have to admit, it’s everything we hoped it would be.
World’s Best Breakfast
It’s touted as the world’s best breakfast and for good reason. Fresh squeezed orange juice, omelets, every kind of eggs benedict imaginable and homemade strawberry preserves are all fixtures at the cafe.
We could go on and on about their amazing lunch (and we do, here) but now we highly recommend the breakfast too. We’re not the only ones. The place is packed with a loooong wait for a table.
Insider Tip: Call ahead to get your name on the list, before you arrive. The line is long so you’ll save some precious time when you’re hungry.
The Lighthouse Cafe has the feel of a casual, local cafe that serves fresh, homemade comfort food. The only problem? There’s so many choices, it’s hard to pick!
Lighthouse Cafe Breakfast Menu
With a whole bunch of flavors to choose from, the hot cakes are fluffy and made from scratch. They’re filled to the brim with all kinds of goodies. At our table, we feasted on blueberry, malted and granola nut hot cakes.
The huge portions of pancakes appear plain at first, until you cut into them: hidden treasures of fillings like blueberries and granola, burst out. Each one is served fresh, hot and full of flavor.
The real cherry on top is it’s all served with warm, real maple syrup!
Lighthouse Cafe Strawberry Preserves
It is hard to go any further without addressing the cafe’s MVP: homemade strawberry preserves. We heard rumors it was fresh and fabulous. We can confirm it’s even better than we hoped. We’ve never had preserves this delicious. It’s the closest you’ll come to the taste of summer sunshine in a jar.
We ordered a plate of toast for the table, just so we could try the famous strawberry preserves. It’s heaven served on bread! It was so great, we bought a bottle to take home. We only wish we would’ve gotten two.
Luckily, the cafe sells its preserves online (shipping is included in the price).
There are so many breakfast foods to try at the cafe. We can’t wait to return and try them all. And one thing we know for sure; we won’t leave without several bottles of the standout strawberry preserves.
