Where Is Captiva Island?
Captiva Island sits just off Florida’s southwest coast, connected to the Fort Myers area via the Sanibel Causeway and the Sanibel. From Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers, the drive takes about an hour, making it an easy destination for travelers flying in from across the country.
What Makes Captiva Island Different
Captiva is three miles long. There’s one main road, a handful of restaurants, and no traffic lights. What it does have: a Gulf-front beach that faces due west, offering the most stunning sunsets on the Gulf. The shelling is real – Captiva and neighboring Sanibel sit at a geographic bend in the coastline that funnels shells in from the Gulf. Classic, laid-back, Old Florida at its best, that’s the best way to describe the island itself.
