South Seas Island Resort Requests Redevelopment on Captiva Island

South Seas Island Resort is in the middle of a major renovation and now the resort’s owner is requesting an even bigger transformation.

Timbers Company is sharing plans to redevelop and expand the resort. They’re applying to rezone South Seas, allowing them to make updates and increase the number of units on the property. The company says their ultimate goal is to make South Seas Island Resort the number one family resort in the country.

If the zoning request is approved, the new plans would nearly triple the resort’s units. In the plan, Timbers cites the existing buildings as aged and deteriorating.

A 49-page South Seas Master Plan outlines the rezoning efforts and expansion plans.

South Seas Renovation Background

In Fall 2021, South Seas Island Resort was sold to Timbers Company. The resort stretches 2.5 miles along Captiva Island’s northern end.

Less than a year after the sale, Hurricane Ian caused extensive damage to the 330-acre resort. South Seas is undergoing repairs from the historic storm.

The rezoning process could take around nine months. Check back for updates on this proposal.
