Captiva Beach Renourishment 2025 Update

The long-awaited Captiva Beach Renourishment Project began Sept. 20 at Turner Beach. This marks the first renourishment effort since Hurricane Ian, following the last project completed in 2021. After months of delays, work is finally moving forward to restore Captiva’s shoreline, protect against erosion and storm surge, and preserve the beaches we all treasure—for residents, visitors, wildlife, and the island economy.

Captiva Beach Renourishment 2025 Timing

The Turner Beach parking lot is closed Sept. 5 through Oct. 12 to serve as a staging area. For 56 days, crews from Great Lakes Dredge & Dock will place roughly 1.2 million cubic yards of sand to strengthen and rebuild the beach. Later in the project, the Alison Hagerup Beach parking lot will close temporarily to support construction, with dates to be announced once progress in the south is evaluated.

During construction, beach access will be restricted in active work zones, but the rest of Captiva’s shoreline will remain open. Nighttime operations may create some light and noise, but environmental safeguards, including on-site wildlife and water-quality monitoring, will remain in place.

Work will continue around the clock—24 hours a day, seven days a week—as weather allows. Visitors should expect to see heavy equipment, pipelines, and lighting along sections of the beach throughout the process.
