Family-Friendly Activities on Captiva Island
Check out our list of things to do on a family-friendly vacation on Captiva Island. There are many things to do that the whole family will enjoy.
Dolphin Cruise
If you’re bringing the family to Captiva, a dolphin cruise from Captiva Cruises is the quintessential, family-friendly activity. But you don’t need to bring kids to feel like a kid on this cruise. Making loud noise is encouraged as it attracts the dolphins. We’ve taken this cruise many times; it’s always a hit and never gets old. Dolphin watching is approved for all ages and really brings out the kid in those of us over the age of 18.
Banana Boat Rides
Does your family feel the need for some speed on vacation? Jump on an inflatable banana boat ride with YOLO Watersports. The 10 or so minute ride will take you across the water at a speed of 15 miles per hour. It seats up to six passengers and is a fun way to enjoy the gulf and catch a different view of the island.
Cayo Costa State Park
This is another fantastic excursion for any age. Take a half day or full day trip to this nearly deserted island for the most spectacular shells and sand dollars you’ll find in the U.S. The views alone are worth the trip. Wade in knee-high gulf water as you scour for unique shells. Let the kids run along the soft, white sand or join in your search party. Pack a picnic for a lunch view that can’t be beat. Travel to Cayo Costa is through Captiva Cruises.
Cabbage Key
Bring the kids for lunch and bring some cash because the infamous Cabbage Key Inn and Restaurant is covered in dollar bills. You can leave your mark by leaving your own dollar bills. Order a literal cheeseburger in paradise; legend has it Jimmy Buffet wrote his infamous song at the Cabbage Key Inn and Restaurant. Access to Cabbage Key is through Captiva Cruises.
Ice Cream
Looking for a little dessert to cool you off on a hot night? Boops by the Bubble Room offers all your favorite Bubble Room deserts and more. For a sweet treat in the village, stop by Latte Da coffee and ice cream shop. They offer Queenie’s homemade ice cream, milkshakes and smoothies.
The Beach
If you’re looking for a relaxing way to soak up the sun, you can’t go wrong with a day at the beach. Grab the kids and splash in the water, build sandcastles and make memories that will last a lifetime.
