There’s a new place on Captiva Island where you can have your cake and eat it too. Boops By The Bubble Room is a dessert shop serving cake, ice cream, pastries, and coffee. We like to think of it as the island’s version of a sweet shop on steroids.
Boops By The Bubble Room
The Bubble Room may be a full-service restaurant but it’s celebrated for its amazing desserts. On a typical night, the host stand used to be cluttered with customers trying to get their hands on a piece of famous Bubble Room cake.
Not anymore. The Bubble Room’s Emporium moved across Captiva Drive and the building was given a fresh makeover to become Boops By The Bubble Room. Since March 2021, this bright yellow shop has exclusively featured desserts; including The Bubble Room’s famous cakes. Red velvet, orange crunch, white Christmas, oh my!
The soda fountain feel has an old-world charm, much like the vibe of this Old Florida island. You can see it in the details of the stained glass, antique signs, and vintage statue of their namesake.
Bubble Room’s Orange Crunch Cake
The evening we visited, the line was out the door. We waited a solid half-hour to grab slices of cake to-go. Was it worth it? Yep! We finally tried the beloved orange crunch cake. This thick, dense cake is nothing like the boxed mix from the grocery store (no offense, Betty Crocker). It’s in a whole other cake galaxy. The homemade taste is only enhanced by the brown sugar-crusted, crunchy almonds between layers. Top it off with the perfect amount of citrus in the orange frosting and you have a Caribbean party in your mouth.
Jamaican Rum Cake
We also ordered the Jamaican rum cake. For this dessert, The Bubble Room takes a classic pound cake and soaks it in Jamaican dark rum. The cake has a decadent, extra-dense chocolate mousse, and a chopped pecan topping. The cake is delicious, but there’s not much (or any) rum taste to it.
With slices the size of your head, the cake is easily a dessert for two. But it’s so good, I doubt you’ll want to share it!
Boops By The Bubble Room’s Expanded Offerings
All the classic Bubble Room desserts are on the menu, but that’s not all. Their fresh-baked pastries are the perfect pair to the Illy coffee. Ice cream, fountain sodas, and shakes are also available.
