The Green Flash: Captiva Island’s dockside restaurant

If you’re looking for a restaurant with a water view on Captiva that’s unmatched, The Green Flash, Captiva Island’s dockside restaurant, is a pot o’ gold.

Dockside Dining

Unassuming from the outside, The Green Flash serves up a panoramic view of the bay. Named for the fabled green flash that appears for a nanosecond during sunset, this restaurant features dockside dining with a clear view of Pine Island Sound.

Whether dining inside or on the patio, you’re hit with an amazing, waterfront view. When we visited, it was the hottest, most humid day we’ve ever experienced on the island. Eating inside with air conditioning was tempting but so was the water view (thank heaven for the table umbrellas!). If we were any closer to the water, we would’ve been swimming.

We can see why people are drawn here. It’s a real feast for the eyes. And the food is a feast for your tastebuds.

My mouth watered at the sight of the grouper sandwich but the humidity had other plans. Too hot to attempt eating anything that warm, we ordered fish tacos and chicken salad.

The Green Flash Cocktail

While we waited for our food, we needed something to cool down. The Green Flash Drink caught our eye. (When in Rome!) It’s a piña colada with melon liqueur in addition to rum. It delivers a burst of melon flavor that only adds to this already delicious tropical drink.

Sipping a cold, colorful cocktail with a panoramic view of the bay; this is the epitome of an island vacation! So tasty and refreshing, the Green Flash drink is more like gone in a flash.

Lunch with a View

While we waited for our food, we watched kayaks float by and birds dive into the water looking for their own lunch. Fish tacos and chicken salad were a welcome sight for these hungry tourists.

Chicken salad is easy to get wrong, or at least underwhelm. But on an incredibly hot and humid afternoon this was just what my husband needed. Before taking a bite, the chicken salad was a hit. Instead of bland, unseasoned chicken, it was covered in seasoning and the texture was perfect. My (particular) husband loved it.

The fish tacos are fantastic. Fresh fish with thick slices of avocado and pico de gallo; all winter I long to eat this kind of meal, especially outdoors. The tacos are filling but light enough to take a swim in the gulf after lunch.

We can’t wait to come back on our next trip – hopefully on a cooler day. The crunchy grouper sandwich is still calling my name and so is that amazing view!
