Even if you’ve never been to Captiva Island, you’ve probably heard of the Bubble Room. It’s one of the island’s most famous restaurants.
The Bubble Room
The Bubble Room started in 1979 at the Farqhuarson family home, when they placed a few dining tables in their front room. It wasn’t long before the little restaurant became popular with visitors.
“It’s always Christmas”
Brightly colored on the outside, this restaurant is all about themes. The most popular is the front room, decorated like a 1940’s family Christmas. Celebrity photos cover the restaurants’ walls along with toys from decades gone. Upstairs, you’ll even find an antique diving suit.
Vintage toy trains run through each level of the restaurant, adding a whimsical touch. Bubble Scouts, the name for the restaurant’s servers and bartenders who wear boy scout-inspired uniforms, add to the nostalgia of days gone by.
The Bubble Room’s Famous Bubble Bread
It’s not so common for a restaurant’s side dish to become one of its most famous menu items. But The Bubble Room breaks barriers with its Bubble Bread. It’s their take on beach bread; garlic cheese bread with a layer of melted blue cheese on top. It’s their most talked-about food, aside from their desserts.
Signature Drinks
The Bubble Room has a variety of signature drinks, each with a flashy name. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Gilligan’s Island and If You Like Piña Coladas, a pina colada served inside a cored pineapple.
Orange Crunch Cake
Last but certainly not least, is the Orange Crunch Cake. This cake is as famous as the restaurant itself. It’s so popular, dozens of online copycat versions attempt to recreate the legendary recipe.
The dense, homemade cake is flawless. Enhanced by the brown sugar crusted, crunchy almonds between layers, it’s topped off with frosting that has just the right amount of orange citrus flavor.
If you want to skip dinner and go straight to dessert, the famous orange crunch cake (along with all their other cakes) is now available next-door at Boop’s by the Bubble Rooms. Dining in? Don’t worry, you can still get this classic Captiva Island treat.
If anything, stop in for a drink or a mammoth slice of cake and check out this unique island eatery for yourself.
